SPoT sends messages by a robust Simplex L-band uplink to a constellation of 40 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites that currently process 2.3 messages per second  tracking commercial containers and trailers around the world with a 99.4% success rate.

It has four key functions that enable users to send messages to friends, family or emergency responders based upon varying levels of need:

Alert 911

Despatches emergency services to your exact location.
SPoT sends one message every 5 minutes until power is depleted or a 999 CANCEL message is sent. For more details click on the 999 button on the SPoT image on the Home Page. 

Ask for Help

Requests help from friends and family from your exact location.
SPoT sends one message every 5 minutes for one hour or until a HELP CANCEL message is sent.
An email is sent to your contacts with a link to Google Maps™ for them to pinpoint your location.
Optionally a text message can be sent to mobile phones at a slight extra cost.For more details click on the HELP button on the SPoT image on the Home Page.   

Check In

Lets contacts know where you are and that you’re OK.
SPoT sends three identical messages, but only the first received is delivered to you.
An email is sent to your contacts with a link to Google Maps™ for them to pinpoint your location.
Optionally a text message can be sent to mobile phones at a slight extra cost.For more details click on the OK button on the SPoT image on the Home Page.

Tracking

Send and save your location and allow contacts to track your progress using Google Maps™.
SPoT sends one message every 10 minutes for 24 hours or until it is cancelled or powered off.
NB. This is an optional extra service which does not send emails or text meassages and greatly increases the number of messsages sent to your website account.
