The group were taking part in the Abbotts Way Walk when they came across a party of walkers, 2 of whom were exhausted after being soaked in a swollen river in atrocious weather conditions. They summoned help via the GEOS control centre by pressing the 999 button on their SPOT satellite messenger whilst those members of the Dartmoor Rescue Group present in the locality coordinated a well executed helicopter evacuation in very poor visibility. The walkers are not thought to have suffered any long term harm. |
